Dr. DiGrazia grew up wanting to live on a farm. As a medical student, he studied in Switzerland in an area surrounded by vineyards. As a Medical Doctor, he possessed an extensive knowledge of chemistry. In 1978, Dr. DiGrazia finally reached his dream of planting a vineyard starting with 20 acres in Amenia, New York. In 1984 Dr. DiGrazia proclaimed to his wife that he had to make wine, and she replied, "Well make wine." So he started producing wine in his garage. In their first year, they produced four wines, two of which were gold medal winners.
The winery continued to grow with Barbara DiGrazia, a chemist and psychologist, working as quality control and constantly monitering grapes in her labratory for PH, sugar level, and acidity. Dr. DiGrazia was working on creating wines with his own unique style, most famously his sulfite free honey blush and the high antioxidant Wild Blue port. Most of his wines have won top medals at international, national, and regional competitions, which can be viewed at the Brookfield tasting room. Following the success of the wines they built the tasting room right next their home so they could be there everyday for their customers.
After 36 years of growing grapes and making wine, DiGrazia vineyards is still run by family and close family friends. The family members wear many hats and could be bottling wine on the factory line one day, working in the vineyard that same afternoon, serving the wines in the tasting room, advertising on social media, or making deliveries to liquor stores. Dr. DiGrazia is known for driving all across the state to make deliveries to liquor stores, and giving free and personal wine tours. We care about our wines and our guests. We take pride in our unique and delicious wines of a wide variety local to Connecticut. At our tasting room on Tower Road in Brookfield, you will find a friendly and knowledgeable staff who can help you find the wines you are looking for.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Where is your vineyard?
A: We have two vineyards. One is a half acre vineyard of Niagra grapes at the Brookfield location, and another is our 40 acre vineyard a little ways north. There are two separate sites because we started out as a grape producer in 1978, and when we became a winery we put the tasting room in Brookfield so we could run the winery from home and keep the vineyard in a more rural location. We still operate both sites; the Brookfield Winery and vineyard, and the larger vineyard up north.
Q: Do you serve food?
A: We serve cheese plates, and outside food is permitted. There is a lovely outdoor picnic area where you can enjoy a picnic lunch and a bottle of chilled wine.
Q: What is your distribution? Do you sell to stores?
A: About 40% of our production is sold through stores, and they are all over Connecticut in every county. Check out our distribution page for more info!
Q: Can you ship outside of Connecticut?
A: As of right now we can ship to only a few states. Those states are Florida, California, and within Connecticut. Any orders outside of these three states will be cancelled.
Q: Are you open today?
A: We are open every day from May though December. For January, February, March, and April we are generally closed from Monday though Friday, but you can call ahead and make an appointment or stop by and see if anyone is in the office (which is next to the tasting room). Hours are always 11am to 5pm.
Q: How much is the wine tasting?
A: Six wines for $8, and you get to select any six of our available wines. Or you can also do eight wines for $10.
Q: I always see two beautiful dogs at the winery, what kind of dogs are they and what are their names?
A: They are Australian Shepherds. Their names are Dusty and Bella, and they are both very sweet!
